Pumpkinorama!

Good news! I have finally popped some creations for adoption on my website! YiPPee!! I have created two FUNNY Pumpkins for you to see! They are needle felted and took a loooong time to sculpt but the results were GREAT! I loooooove collectable Pumpkiny things, I have a few Samuel Bears Pumpkins and these are surely inspired by those in my collection! I was going to hold off posting them until Halloween but I couldn't resist! ooooeeee, not long to Halloween, one of my FAV times of the Year! I just wish we celebrated it more here in Oz, it's such FUN!
So if you'd like to see the Pumpkins click here...Their names are Patchum and Pumpog! They will both spend sometime on my website and then if they haven't found a family they will make an appearance on The Teddy Patch or eBay!

Of Cheeks and Chubbiness...

YAY!!! I am finally back to creating my chubby cheeky bearies, well, actually a Cat but still I am finally back to it! I have missed it so much! I began creating my 'boofheads' (that's my nickname for them) when I first started needle felting..I used to pop crochet on the back of the head and crochet the body parts but then I 'graduated' to needle felting the entire beary. They are just sooo much FUN with their GINORMOUS cheekies...It looks like they have cherries in their cheeks or something...sooo FUNNY! I have tried a new way of doing the eyes with my latest, giving him a bit more of a sweet look...turns out all I had to do was make the eyes a wee bit larger and VOILA, the sweet look! I will defo be creating more now I am back in the swing of creating them...I just hope they are able to find families who love them!

Anyhoodle, my new guy is named Toob...after the SCRUMMY snacks...you know, Toobs, those burgery kinda things that are now back on the shelves....They were the big thing when I was a kid, them and Coca-Cola...the perfect kid combo! Toob, the Cat looks nothing like them of course, he is pink and purple and oh sooo cute and he's on eBay right now, just click here to visit him!

Here is a photo of another one of my chubby cheeky bearies...Now these are some verrrrry squeezable cheeks! This bearies name is Tea Rose and those cheekies took a whole lotta feltin' that's for sure!

What's a Kewpie?

Hmmm....Now just what is a Kewpie and why's it called a Kewpie? When I was growing up I had Kewpie Dolls that I would take in the bath, they were the cutest little dolls with their round bodies, chubby face and little curl atop their heads...but I wonder why they are called Kewpies, don't you? Okay, so I am off to the Wikipedia to find out! Back in just a tick!...
So, I found out this...Kewpie dolls and figurines are based on illustrations by Rose O'Neill that appeared in Ladies' Home Journal in 1909. These illustrations, which incorporated words and pictures with the recurring Kewpie characters, are considered to be early versions of the comic strip medium....

...and this is why they are called Kewpies...

Their name, often shortened to "Kewpies", in fact is derived from "Cupid", the Roman god!..

So, there you have it! Of course, now I can see where the name came from!! How could I not have put two and two together!...tee hee...Funny how we go through life not seeing the obvious! I really did love my Kewpies but somehow sadly on life's highway they have become lost and my Kewpies are with me no more...but since they are still about in abundance I see them everywhere and am reminded just how wonderful it was to have a Kewpie!

Why all this talk of Kewpie's?? Well, being a bear creator I thought I might create a beary version of a Kewpie in Micro miniature!...and so that's just what I did...I gave him (yes, I made him a boy) a rotund body a cute expression and a very sweet little Kewpie curl atop his teddy head! While not being exactly like the Kewpie's, he is reminiscent of them enough for me to name him just that, Kewpie! If you'd like to pop on over to his auction, just click here, perhaps he will remind you of your special Kewpie!
