Space...The Final Beary Frontier...

Don't you just love the vastness of space?? When you are outside on a warm Summer night, don't ya just look up at the beautiful night sky with it's glistening stars and wonder what really is out there??? I think there is nothing better than to just look up and contemplate just how magnificent the Universe is...
I have always loved warm summer nights with the front door open, the warm breeze blowing in gently and watching a good space movie on the telly! Star Wars is my FAV for that, oh not the new ones, too mod they are but the oldies and might I say the goodies...ahhh, there is nothing better! Oh and let's me not forget ET! I remember us all gathered around the telly at my Grandparents home the first time ET was on the telly...It to was a warm Summer night and it was the best, the stars were twinkling out the front door and reality was suspended in the most WONDERFUL way!
Do you believe that there is life out there like ET? Or maybe you believe in some other kind of extraterrestrial? Maybe you don't believe at all and think we are alone in the Universe? I like to think that somewhere out there on a far distant Planet, there are people like us thinking the same thing and watching the Stars just like we do...Imagine...I wonder what they would be like to talk to...If they are out there, I hope one day we will hear each other in the Night sky....Helloooooo?
To find out how the search is going visit http://www.seti.org/

One little beary who keeps an eye on the S.E.T.I website is Martin! He is a new little beary I have created who looooooves everything to do with Space and the Stars!! He has his own COOL spaceship and wears a foil hat so he can tune in to any communication from the far reaches of the Universe! I just looooooved creating Martin and hope he will give you a giggle and maybe inspire you to take a moment and look up at the Stars and wonder....

Teeny weeny beary jewellery!

Hellooooo everybody, just a shortie post but I am eager to tell you all about my latest creation...drum roll.....rrrrratatatatatata....Beary earrings! Yeppers, that's right folks, teeny tiny beary earrings! I needle felted the smallest bearies I have managed yet and attached them to some dangly earring thingamabobs....They measure just a smidge over half an inch and are in the Anime way...I just had a ball creating them, it was sure something different. I also liked the challenge of creating them to look the same but to give them their own character to...

If you'd like to take a peek-a-roo just click here to see their auction on eBay!

Of Cheeks and Chubbiness...

YAY!!! I am finally back to creating my chubby cheeky bearies, well, actually a Cat but still I am finally back to it! I have missed it so much! I began creating my 'boofheads' (that's my nickname for them) when I first started needle felting..I used to pop crochet on the back of the head and crochet the body parts but then I 'graduated' to needle felting the entire beary. They are just sooo much FUN with their GINORMOUS cheekies...It looks like they have cherries in their cheeks or something...sooo FUNNY! I have tried a new way of doing the eyes with my latest, giving him a bit more of a sweet look...turns out all I had to do was make the eyes a wee bit larger and VOILA, the sweet look! I will defo be creating more now I am back in the swing of creating them...I just hope they are able to find families who love them!

Anyhoodle, my new guy is named Toob...after the SCRUMMY snacks...you know, Toobs, those burgery kinda things that are now back on the shelves....They were the big thing when I was a kid, them and Coca-Cola...the perfect kid combo! Toob, the Cat looks nothing like them of course, he is pink and purple and oh sooo cute and he's on eBay right now, just click here to visit him!

Here is a photo of another one of my chubby cheeky bearies...Now these are some verrrrry squeezable cheeks! This bearies name is Tea Rose and those cheekies took a whole lotta feltin' that's for sure!

What's a Kewpie?

Hmmm....Now just what is a Kewpie and why's it called a Kewpie? When I was growing up I had Kewpie Dolls that I would take in the bath, they were the cutest little dolls with their round bodies, chubby face and little curl atop their heads...but I wonder why they are called Kewpies, don't you? Okay, so I am off to the Wikipedia to find out! Back in just a tick!...
So, I found out this...Kewpie dolls and figurines are based on illustrations by Rose O'Neill that appeared in Ladies' Home Journal in 1909. These illustrations, which incorporated words and pictures with the recurring Kewpie characters, are considered to be early versions of the comic strip medium....

...and this is why they are called Kewpies...

Their name, often shortened to "Kewpies", in fact is derived from "Cupid", the Roman god!..

So, there you have it! Of course, now I can see where the name came from!! How could I not have put two and two together!...tee hee...Funny how we go through life not seeing the obvious! I really did love my Kewpies but somehow sadly on life's highway they have become lost and my Kewpies are with me no more...but since they are still about in abundance I see them everywhere and am reminded just how wonderful it was to have a Kewpie!

Why all this talk of Kewpie's?? Well, being a bear creator I thought I might create a beary version of a Kewpie in Micro miniature!...and so that's just what I did...I gave him (yes, I made him a boy) a rotund body a cute expression and a very sweet little Kewpie curl atop his teddy head! While not being exactly like the Kewpie's, he is reminiscent of them enough for me to name him just that, Kewpie! If you'd like to pop on over to his auction, just click here, perhaps he will remind you of your special Kewpie!

The Sea Hath Bearies!

Are you one of those people like me that love the Sea? I love the way it looks, the Marine Life that make it their home and the sheer vastness of it...Okay, the only thing I don't like is swimming in it! Oh, I paddle of course and go out a couple of feet or so but never to actually swim...JAWS did it for me! I figure the Sharks are meant to live there and I'm not so I can just look and occasionally get a little wet but that's it! ...but why am I writing about the Sea right??
...Well, a program on Animal Planet about a Dolphin being reintroduced to the Wild has inspired me to create a new wee Anime beary in the colours of the Sea! Sheldon was created from this FABO Ocean coloured Wool I had and he sure came out marine-like! I popped a Starfish charm on him and give him a rescue ring to play with and he's all set! If ya'd like to see him on eBay just click here to swim on over...

Ah - Choo!

YAY....Finally I am back to popping my bearies on eBay! A hospital visit hadd me outta comission for a while there but thankfully I am back to creating! So, I have created a little girl named Sneeze for you all! She's in the Anime way and all pink and sweet! I so loved creating her! I'm not at all sure why I named her Sneeze, although I reckon it must be the influence of her big nose, it kinda gives her that 'I godda gold' (I gotta cold) feeling...Sneezes are the strangest things aren't they...I remember when we were kids, we'd stare at a light so that it would make us sneeze, I'm sure kids get a secret delight out of it...My family always sneezes three times in each lot, what about yours? Are you a 3 or a 2 sneeze person? We always used to make a comment if somebody in our family only did 2 sneezes, it was like a sneeze had gone missing! Hmmm....I wonder where it went!
Anyhoodle, you can visit Sneeze on eBay by clicking here...I'm sure she'd love a visit, perhaps you can say 'Gezuntheit' (Spelling?) while you are there!

Japanese Smiles!

This week I have had FUN creating a Japanese-style Micro Mini with a HUGE smile!! There is something about an Anime with a grin...ya just never know whether it's a cheeky smile, a happy smile, or a cat that ate the canary smile..sooo many moods come from the same smile!! I guess it depends on just who's looking hey!

Smiles are wonderful things, it's amazing how they can affect you and those around you, even a stitched smile on a bear can brighten somebodies day! I know myself that I be sure to smile if I am passing somebody on the street or in a shop because it seems to be contagious! Sneak a peak next time you smile at somebody..If they smile back chances are they will flash the next person a smile and then they do the same and so on it goes...It's the most contagious of all things in the World!

A smile also changes your mood for sure....It's funny, when a kid is sad and somebody can manage to do something to make them smile their whole mood changes even if it's only for a brief time...and that my friends is MAGIC!! It's like a band aid for the Soul!!

So, I hope my wee bear's smile spreads around the World a little bit and brightens somebodies day! If you'd like to see her smile, just click here to take a peakeedoo!!

Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day. ~Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

YAY Jemima!

Bugging me, Bugging you...

...ooooooeeee....finally I have managed to create another of my Buggies!! It has been a while so getting back to the business of Bugging was SUPER COOL!! I just love to create them and when I begin I never can guess just what kind of Bug will pop out from the Wool! This time, Jemima, that's her name is a combination between a Bug and a Butterfly...there can only be such a creature in the World of the imagination though...I think she is more Butterfly than Bug but both are wonderful in their own way so let's call her a ButterBug!...tee hee...Sounds like a crawly that might stray into your ButterDish!!!

Insects are AMAZING aren't they?? And soooo many unusaul shapes and sizes and funny expressions...It's a mini World but WOW is it fascinating!...and Butterflies of course as sooo BEAUTIFUL!! To see ne fluttering about your Garden is a MAGICAL experience...They are almost like Fairies dancing in your Garden...and so many times they seem to come straight toward you to say Hello...It can brighten a gloomy day and leave a lasting impression....LadyBird's are my FAVOURITE of all the Buggies on the Earth...I think LadyBird's and Butterflies must be good friends indeed for they are both sooo LOVELY! I ahven't seen one ima while but as is often the case, when you think about something you haven't thought about in a while it often turns up out of the blue to give you a smile...so I shall be on the look out!! An interesting fact shared with me by my Mum is that LadyBird's don't get eaten by other bugs because they apparently taste awful! Good for them!

Jemima will be on eBay for 3 days and would looove for you to visit and say a very bug buggy Hello to her! Click here if you'd like to visit her, she is a friendly bug that's for sure!

There was a Dinky doggy....

Ahhhh...remember those cartoons in the 80's?? The Smurfs, Funky Phantom, The Hair Bear Bunch, The Herculoids, Wonder Wheels...those were the days! Things have changed so much in the World but luckily we have a wonderful channel in Oz called 'Boomerang' so they all are magically appearing on the TV again! WOOHOO!! I loved 'em all and they are still such an influence on my beary life! I remember one cartoon called Dinky Doggy, it was sooo CUTE! It was about this HUGE but oh so sweet doggy named Dinky and his two humans...It was sooo much FUN and I loooved the way he used to bark, it was the CUTEST thing! My Brother could do a pretty good impression and I used to keep at him to do it over and over again...I haven't seen it for the longest time, maybe it will pop up on the telly soon! Well, what does this have to do with bears though right? Well, my latest beary is named after that ADORABLE tooney pooch! He is a tiny fella unlike Dinky doggy but he has a HUGE head and a fluffy one at that and when I finished him it just reminded me of that awesome Saturday morning cartoon, so that's just what I named him...Dinky!

I am feeling soooo nostalgic right now remembering those days of childhood...boy do I miss 'em, how 'bout you? I grew up with the magic of ET, BMX Bikes, Hubba Bubba Bubblegum, Star Wars, Yo Yo's, Atari, Family Drive-In Theatres, warm Summer nights playing ball on the road, Slip'n'Slides, 20 cent mixed lollies and so many more wonderful things...click here to read more about growing up in the 80's! Those were the days I lived and miss every moment but we can all go back there now and again and relive the magic in our memories! How lucky I am to have grown up in that World!

Anyhoodle, back to Dinky and his World...tee hee...Click here to visit him on eBay, I hope he gives you a GIGANTIC smile and maybe even reminds you of a special time in your life!

Saturday, May 26, 2007

Meeeee - YOW!!!!!!

Yeppers, it's another funky feline that I have created! Grizwald is a real Ginger guy with a so cute face! I think I am partly inspired to do cats by my own feverishly, far out, funky, flippy, fun-loving feline named Scoob...Okay, yes, it's a dogs name, Scooby-Doo and all that but it actually turned out just about right because our Scoob thinks she's just that...a DOG! She plays with toys like a dog, chews like a dog, plays with the dogs, eats dog food and generally thinks she is the Queen of all Pooches!...About the only thing cat like is the way she looks. the way she jumps and the way she attacks you when you least expect it! I think for Halloween I should purrrrrchase her a dog costume or at the very least have her wear a hat with floppy dog ears!...tee hee...I guess growing up with a pack of pooches makes puss a pretty oddball girl but we looove her to bits and there is oh so still a hint of the Cat species in her, her claws digging into your leg like 3 inch nails when she wants a Hug gives it away everytime!

Grizwald is on eBay for 3 days with a Buy It Now, just click here to pop over to say Hello!

Back to Black and a Million Paws!

Well now, I wouldn't have expected to go back to black so quickly but a wonderful collector prompted me to create a Micro mini in black and I'm so glad I did! The result is little Jumba, a kinda oddball beary in the Anime-style, gee, there's a surprise, another Anime!...tee hee...

My Mum got these AWESOME tooney like comic eyes from www.tedsfromthreads.com and I couldn't resist using them in my latest black fella!

I can't sign off without telling you all that last weekend, I went to the Million Paws Walk for the RSPCA in Adelaide! WOW!!!! More than 5000 dogs in one place! WHOA!!! There were dogs of every type there, big ones, small ones, some as big as horses and some as small as rabbits, what an array of pooches, it was FAB!!! They raised over 100,000 dollars for abused and abandoned dogs and cats and other animals. There was even a Sheep and Goat in attendance!!! A few scuffles were had by some moody pooches but all in all it was AWESOME and everybody got along great!! I took Wibo, my Cocker Spaniel and GUESS WHAT???? We won the Owner/Dog Look-a-like contest!!!! WOOHOOO!!! For real, it was SUPER!!! We even got a Blue Ribbon to show for it!! The judges thought my hair looked like Wibo's Cocker ears!!! I thought we might have a chance...We had some stiff competition with a Collie and a Papillon resembling their humans but the crowd was with us and we took the prize! Wibo sat there so well behaved and I was pleased and proud as punch of him!!! A great day was had by all, both human and canine!
Congratulations Wibo, You're a WINNER!

Back to the business of bears though! Jumba is on eBay for 5 days with a Buy It Now and I am sure would loooove a visit...Click here to see him and his wonderful mini blackness!

Cute Cockers...

Well, I have gone back to pink again...I just knew I couldn't stay away too long!...and this time, it isn't a bear! Nope, nope, nope....it's....ahem...she's a POOCH!! A Cocker Spaniel to be precise...I just looove the floppy eared sweeties sooo much and even have a Cocker Spaniel buddy of my own! His name is Wibo and boy is he ADORABLE!! He has those big soulful eyes and the drooping jowls and is the most huggable pooch around...My other pooches are just as cuddly though but don't mind a snuggle up to Wibo every now and then..He is the biggest and for them it must be like curling up with a giant hot water bottle covered in fur!...tee hee...

Now, Taffy, my newest creation is as you aready have gathered PINK and though I don't recall having seen a pink Cocker Spaniel I am sure there are others out there...maybe...well, I am sure I have seen pink poodles! Imagine colouring your pooches hair???? It's a strange World sometimes but if a Cocker Spaniel girl could choose her own highlight colour, I am sure she would go pink, don't ya think?

Taffy is named for my Cocker Spaniel from many years ago..very loved and very missed so I hope she gives ya a HUGE spaniel like smile! Click here to find her on eBay!

Black Wednesday!

Amazing! My preference for pink has finally ended, well, at least for a few days!...and with a bow to the extremes of life I have gone BLACK! My newest little girl is soooo black, the only bits of white on her are some checks in her ribbon and her google eyes...So I guess you could say she is colourless! So, is black really not a colour? ....ahem....according to the Wikipedia it sure ain't! Here's the lowdown on the black colour debate...

"Scientifically black is not a hue (color); a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them, this is sometimes confused with black being called 'a mixture of all colors' but that is not the case. Sometimes black is described as an "achromatic color"; in practice black can be considered a color, e.g., the black cat or black paint."

hmmmm....so that clears it up...NOT! So, it's not a colour scientifically but practically it is...okay, I get it, SORTA!! Anyhoodle, Black, colour or not looks FAB on a bear!!

I guess you are thinking her name sounds suspiciously familiar to! Yeppers, you guessed it! I had the Addams Family squarely on my mind as I felted her in this oh so jet black wool (see, no reference to it being a colour...I'm learning...)...and besides I felted and finished her on a Wednesday so it seemed appropriate...=o) I just love the Addams Family and their quirkiness....The Munsters were funny to bu the Addams' had the edge for me!

Anyhoodle, if you'd like to visit Wednesday at her Auction, all ya goddadoo is click here...Hope she gives you a giGGle!

Cat in a Cup...

Well, I have created another kitty sittin atop a vintage item, a funny tankardy cup thing! I don't know why these little vintage doodads inspire me to create cats but there ya have it, another cat it is! His name is Kit and I tried something a little different with him...I used teeny glass beads as limbs with needle felted roundish feetsies and pawsies! I love it, it gives a new sense of fun to my micro minis and looks especially cattish!

Cats are sooo WONDERFUL aren't they! I love the way they move about like they are wearing slippers, they are sooo quiet! Now, I would love that, to walk around everywhere in a nice soft pair of slippers! I think everybody should wear them out!! To the shopping centre, to the Doctor, out to Dinner at a Restaurant, anywhere and everywhere they like! Maybe a fluffy Purple pair to the Cinema, now that's gotta make an even better movie experience! Cats are soo lucky their slippers are built in!...ugh...I wanna be a Cat!!!

A new day, A new colour...

Well, I have been in a PINK bear mood for some days now and it hasn't seemed to stop with me creating yet another beary in PINK!! This time a wee little Micro girl named Leelee!!

Do you notice that different days seem like different colours? I think today was an orange day and the day before was a green day, like a blue day may not actually mean a kinda sad day, it may just mean a beautiful sky is about or the birds are having a good day, blue can mean sooo many more things than just being sad...I think a purple day would be a relaxin' kinda day, red would be an exciting day, maybe yellow would be an interesting day, I wonder how your colours and days mingle together!! With all these different coloured days, I wonder why my bearies are still coming out PINK! Could it be that that is the first colour in my craft trolley!! HA!
Well, Leelee in all her pinkiness is on eBay and is oh so looking forward to meeting a new family that loves PINK!! I guess when she arrives it will be a PINK day!!...tee hee...

The Colour Purple...

Boy, did I marvel at that movie...Alice Walker is such an AWESOME lady! Well, I can't say that my latest bear was inspired by anything purple sounding but somehow he came about and ended up verrrry purple! I even went a little purple crazy and created him an odd ball purple hat with a button that reads 'Made in Paris!!'...oh no, he was made in Oz for sure but I think it makes him want to see the Eiffel Tower or something very French...Maybe a croissant and an Edith Piaf CD will get him feeling like he is there...Edith Piaf always reminds me of coffee...strange huh?... they used to play her songs on a coffee ad here in Australia and so now everytime I hear her I think of coffee...WOW, the power of advertising...anyhoo, I digress...If you'd like to see Saihoo, yep, that's the purple ones name, he is on eBay now...

PS...Miko and Shoochi found FABOTASTIC homes in the UK and are on their way there now...lucky things will meet their lovely new familes soon!...Oh to be a bear and travel the World...Can you send humans by post??...ahem...

Rainy Days and Rumbles!

Rain, rain go away, come back another day...No, no we sure do need the rain and this lot has been FAB! I think the Earth here needed some rejuvenation and that's just what she got...only thing is the sky was dark and was rumbling like a bears belly without honey! Still, the thunder and gloomy day is worth the new freshness that comes with the rain...A rainy day also means fun with the crochet hook and what jumped off my hook this time is a very sweet traditional looking Amigurumi girl in baby pink...Awww, Shoochi, that's the name she chose, just melted my heart when she was finished and I could almost have kept her but she whispered in my ear that she'd like to travel the World and meet new people so she convinced me to pop her on eBay to find a loving family to adopt her...I just love the look of traditional Amigurumi, it's so simple yet so, so sweet...and they give such lovely hugs on a rainy and gloomy day!

Starting the Weeko with Miko!

What a FAB start to the Week! I have completed a sweet little pink girl in the Japanese-style...I got plenty of sore fingers from the needles but she was well worth it, I managed to get her to 1 1/8" standing so was very happy with that, I think I will go a little smaller on the next one though. Unfortunately I didn't create a mini dress for her but I hope I can do it soon, I just have to have the right ribbon for it and the oranza I had this time was a little narrow...It would be good for a 3/4" beary though. Anyhoo, the little bearies name is Miko and she is on eBay right now...

An Australian Kitty Cat in the UK...

WooHoo!! The Owl and the Pussy Cat are off to the beautiful UK to be with a wonderfully friendly collector! I am so glad they found a home!
I have other mini's in the UK, maybe they will have a reunion some day...tee hee...
Tonight, I did some felting but nothing came of it, I just went waaaaaaay too big! The micro's are so my FAV bearies, and I am always surprised at how little they are...So, I put my big felting schamozzle (spelling?) away and started on a micro mini in pretty and soft pink...I am predicting she will be 1 and a bit inches or so...This time I would love to try my hand at a mini organza dress for her...wish me luck, I think I'm gonna need it!

The Owl and the Pussy Cat

The Owl and the Pussy Cat went to Sea in a beautiful pea green boat...etc, etc, etc...My Mum discovered the funny little Owl in a thrift shop and so I spirited it away hearing Edward Lear's funny rhyme in my head...well, the first line anyhoo! I couldn't think of the rest but a visit to Google reminded me of the whole story...and while my new micro mini felted pussy cat sitting on top of the little Owl isn't sitting in a pea green boat with honey and a five pound note, she is still a little cutie...She will be making an appearance on eBay tonight some time so pop over and see her soon if ya like, I'm sure she would looooove the visit!

First post!

Well...I am new to this whole Blog thing but I hope to have it up and running properly soon for sure, although since I am writing this I guess it means it's working!...tee hee... I should introduce myself though I guess...I am Kaz, I live in South Australia and am a miniature bear and doll artist. I am a mad miniature felter...mostly using NZ Corriedale Wool to create teeny little bearies though I do crochet them as well and even use faux fur or mohair on occasion when I feel like sewing. I am a big fan of the Japanese-style bearies and have been creating them for a long time now and still looove them to bits!

What's Japanese-style right...well if ya don't know here is a little picky of one of my 'Anime' bearies!

More chit chat and bearies coming soon!
